Dealing with vehicle/terrain interactions when planning the motions of a rover

چکیده
This paper deals with motion planning for a mobile robot moving on a hilly three dimensional terrain and subjected to strong physical interaction constraints. The main contribution of this paper is a planning method which takes into account the dynamics of the robot, the robot/terrain interactions, the kinematic constraints of the robot, and classical constraints. The basic idea of our method is to integrate geometric and physical models of the robot and of the terrain in a two-stage trajectory planning process consisting in combining a \discrete search strategy" and a \continuous motion generation method". It will be shown how each planning step operates and how they interact in order to generate a \safe" and \executable motion for the all-terrain vehicle. Motion Planning of Autonomous Off-Road Vehicles under Physical Interaction Constraints
| We describe in this paper a new motion planning approach for a non-holonomic mobile robot moving on a uneven terrain and subject to strong physical interaction constraints. The novelty of this method is that it deals with the dynamics of the robot and its physical interactions with the terrain at the planning time, together with the kinematic and the geometric constraints of the task. The pla...
متن کاملMotion Planning for the ATHLETE Rover with Reinforcement Learning
Legged locomotion is attractive because it can enable a robot to traverse far more varied terrain than a wheeled rover is capable of. In the context of planetary exploration, this is especially attractive as the sites of greatest scientific interest tend to be characterized by difficult terrain. For example, it would be extremely difficult for a wheeled rover to make its way into a lunar crater...
متن کاملTerramechanics-based Analysis and Control for Lunar/Planetary Exploration Robots
Surface mobility using wheeled mobile robots (Rovers) is one of the important technologies for lunar/planetary exploration missions. The rover in these missions significantly expands the exploration area and thus increases the scientific or programmatic return from the mission. These planetary exploration rovers are expected to travel long distances and perform complex tasks in order to fulfill...
متن کاملTerrain Aware Inversion of Predictive Models for Planetary Rovers
Planetary rovers will continue to evolve in the direction of enhanced mobility and more challenging terrain. Once the mechatronics are in place, it becomes the job of software to exploit the mobility of the platform to the maximum degree possible while minimizing exposure to risks. Local motion planners for outdoor offroad terrain typically use relatively high fidelity models of vehicle motion ...
متن کاملMotion Planning for Mars Rover
This paper presents an global-optimal motion planner for Mars Rover. It accounts for traversability and dynamic stability due to vehicle dynamics and terrain topography. A given path is traversable if along it the vehicle is statically stable. The vehicle is dynamically stable if its velocity does not exceed the velocity limit, determined from tip-over, sliding, and contact constraints. The cos...
